Success Story Al Parker
‘Fess up – at one point or another in our lives, we’ve all wanted to drop a little weight. And losing weight is simple, it’s just not easy. It takes work. More to the point it takes the willingness to work hard without seeing results right away. It takes a special sort of person to have this perseverance: a person like Al Parker.Al, an engineer by day, came to Fit and Fearless about 5 months ago. He says, “A long time ago I used to box. I quit, then started again for about 5 months. I passed this place (Fit & Fearless) about 100 times, decided to try it, and just love it.” Boxers tend to do well in Krav Maga, because they throw fast, hard punches & aren’t afraid to get in there and mix it up, and Al is no exception. He shows up three or four times per week to scheduled Krav classes and for private lessons with Wayne Miller.
Al knew he wanted to lose weight, but in the beginning wasn’t seeing any results in that department. “I felt healthier, I felt good, but for the first few months I didn’t see a change – until recently.”
Though Al’s scale weight has gone down “only” 15 pounds, he’s lost 6 inches off his waist! And you know what that means…he’s putting on muscle, just from doing Krav Maga!
He says, “It’s the classic story, running out of holes in the belt until you finally have to go to a smaller size – now someone can use my old clothes as a Danny DeVito costume for Halloween!”
Amazingly, he hasn’t changed what he eats at all, “I just eat less because I’m not as hungry any more. I just think about how many mountainclimbers it takes to burn off the food and I seem to eat smaller portions.”
To anyone out there who would like to lose weight while learning to defend themselves, Al says, “Don’t give up, you’ll feel a change before you see one. The changes have taken me by surprise. Just stick with it. I’ve been through a lot of different things to try to lose weight. The first few months can be daunting here, but it gets easier. Well, maybe it doesn’t get easier, but it gets better!”
